Static Electricity or Humidity?

Post by redbelly7 »

While fishing out of Econfina yesterday, my line was floating in the air. My fishing buddy was telling me it was from all of the static electricity in the air. Someone else told me today that it was due to the clouds, humidity, etc. What do you experienced folks say?

The tip of my flyrod started buzzing and popping while i was switching flies on saturday. It was in my bucket on the platform sticking straight up. Needless to say, i threw it in the bottom of the boat and moved to a new location. Never had that happen before.

We were out of the light house once a few months ago and were headed east attempting to beat the storm dodging in and out of open air in between clouds and we stopped to grab some pins and next thing we know the hair started to stand up on our arms, poles started to buzz, and lines started to float.

TheBeerGuy was behind the wheel, he sat on the deck with his head poked out to the left and barely over the wheel, I was up front, grabbing rods and laying them down while I saw my happy butt on the deck.

scary times.

same thing happened later on on the way in, except there was a wall we had to pass through where the pressure dropped a min of 10° and gave us the heebiegeebies
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark
