St. Marks Redfish Bonanza 10-9-2010

Post by jhults7 »

I havnt poseted a report in a while due to my account being screwed up and I have been waiting to have a good day to recreate a new one. We left the St. Marks river this am, my wife Kylie, my buddy Cody and his gf amanda who hasnt fished in about 4 years. The weather today was ridiculouse today btw, cool breeze with the highs in the low 80s and lows in the 50s. Seas were slick calm and didnt see a 1ft wave all day. We hit the flats by 900 am and had a well full of 60 pins ready to meet their dismay by 10. We fished several spots in 25 to 30 ft with only short gags and reds to show for. In the process of running to another # we ran over a shelf that went up from 28ft to 20 ft that was a 1/8 mile long and droped back to 30ft on the other side. Awesome bottom on it and looked promising. The bottom machine also lit like a christmas tree in one particular spot on the shelf. We circled back around to and the girls dropped on it and both were pinned to the rail instantley. Cody and I thought aj's but then knew it was too shallow for them...to our surprise 2 30" bull reds came over the rail. After a few photo ops they took a swim. We circled back around to the spot and dropped again on it and had a quad hookup but kylies red pulled loose...so we ended up wjth a triple hookup. We land the three monsta reds and my was the biggest going 40". After a few more pics they swam too. After that the bulls decided they didnt want to play anymore, we left to our next # in 30ft. We decided to troll the last 1/2 mile to the spot and it payed off. A 1/4 mile from the spot we went over a rock and the shimano tld screemed that sweet sound. Got him boat side and I stuck the 26" gag. Thats the only keeper on the day but hey....1 is better than none. We did catch about 40 short reds and gags but could never really get on the bigguns. I dont think they have moved in shallow just yet. Tilght lines and get after it...and btw...lets see some reports....i saw a ton of boats out today.

To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.
