I had a chance to fish offshore of Anna Maria island last week. The fishing was very good. We boated a limit of Mangrove snapper and grouper. The most interesting part of the trip was I learned some different rigging.
Here are a couple things that were new to me.
We used some Spanish Sardines that were on ice but mixed with rock salt. This made them tough and they seemed to stay on the hook longer. Instead of using a whole piece they used small chunks, this worked well for the snapper and grouper. They also liked to use a double hook setup. I mean that they had one hook thru the other's eye. I had at times a fish hooked with both. It was almost like a stinger. The marker bouy they used was called a cherry bomb. It was similar to a sure mark but this had the handle attached, so when it was deployed the handle was in neutral. The weight was also molded so it would recoil into the unit.
These were some new things to me that I wanted to share.
