Econfina Veterans Day(Pictures added)

Post by Sir reel »

I ask my wife if She would like to go fishing on Veterans Day and She was happy to have the invitation. In keeping with the theme of the day, I dug out my old dog tags (AF16868969 still in memory after 35 years  ) and stuff'd em in my pocket. My wife is not a "get on the water early advocate" so we didn't arrive until about 10am. The three of us (dog wanted to go too) headed out but with low tide scheduled for noon the water was already get'n pretty skinny, especially so just before the tripod. It took us about 45 min to actually get out of the river and another 20 min or so to slowly get out to where we could begin a drift. I had planned on heading West and with the tide going out along with the North East wind my plans fit right in with the conditions. My wife started at her usual spot sitting on the poling platfrom throwing a Cajun Thunder with a 4" new penny gulp. She started getting the pinfish nibbles but every now and then a trout would take off with it and get her excited. I was throwing a top water and the conditions were ideal. Just enough wind to create a little surface disturbance and hardly any grass. I had a nice 19" trout jump all over my bone colored plug and assure us that we wouldn't go home empty handed.ImageImage
For the next 3-4 hours we continued with our drift in the 2 1/2 to 3 foot range and caught perhaps 15 or 20 short trout, and 7 very nice keeper trout with one over 20". There would have been 8 but my wife's net man let her down with one right next to the boat. :( My wife snag'd a couple of Black Sea Bass that were keepers so we felt that we had preformed fairly respectably fishing both sides of the low tide. The weather and conditions were beautiful. The wind picked up just a bit in the afternoon but still great conditions. Water temp was running 64-65 in most places and the water was very clear. We headed in around 3pm and I'm sure the bite would have turned on again in the next couple of hours but we needed to be back. I have pictures in the making and will add them perhaps this afternoon. Great day on the water and I have to say that I had the best looking (and most productive) partner so far this year! :-D

Keeping the saying in mind. "Seek out, close with, and destroy" Looks like you got the destroy part down pat. Mission complete Sir. Good job to you and your boat crew.

Couldn't have been any better!

We, my wife and I, went the next day. On the water a little past seven with bait in the water about 7:45. Caught our limit of trout by eleven plus my first Bull Red.

No Rock Bass caught, Pinfish, Sharks or Catfish, thank goodness on the last three!

We fished with a Chartruse/Diamond Chad Assassin. We are not doing well with Gulp.

Thanks for your report.
