St. Marks Grouper 12/4/10

Post by jhults7 »

We headed out yesterday and the crew was myself, my wife, and Doug and Lauren. We left the dock at 730 and were greeted with flat calm seas. These days really make you appreciate it when its like this compared to those days when its really rockin! We headed to 21 ft and started trolling the +25s and immideatly started picking up fish but most were shorts. We did finally manage a 22.5" for the box in addition to a few really healthy seabass. We decided to make a run to 28 ft to a hole that usually produces the best out of all of our #s. We pulled up and had an awesome read on the furuno so we decided to drop the hook and see who was home. Action was hot and heavy for 45 mins till the tide started to slow up. When the dust settled we ended up boxing 3 nice gags and a chunky red in additon to 20 or so shorts and the usual grunts and seabass. We were about ot pull the hook when my buddy started yelling shark. I looked back and there he was, a dam 9ft Tiger was following up a short grunt he had just hooked. This is probably the coolest looking fish I have ever seen, especially in that clear water. Dam thing came right up the back of the transome and nearly ran into the dive latter..lol. After that we moved around a bit found a new # and the wife caught a nice 28" gag and I added a 22" red. After that the wind really started to pick up as noaa prediced so we took it to the hill. Great day with good friends! Too bad grouper season is going to be over in 3 weeks but i guess we went out with a bang :D ! Tight lines- Jordan
Final tally:
5 Gags to 28"
2 Reds to 22"
8 Seabass to 15"
Tons of short grouper
