Been there done that, JT... though it was a dozen years ago. My old unit, Company D - 8th Tank Battalion (it's since been renamed to Company F - 4th Armored Reconnaissance) has put on a grueling "Ultimate USMC Mud Run" each of the last 16 years. I served on our unit team two of the years I served and I can say that I finished the 4.5 mile course more tired both times than after any of my 40 marathons. Actually made for my proudest run accomplishment -- at the end of the course the team of 4 men are supposed to pick one man for the other 3 to carry on a medical cot the last hundred yards. One of our officers yelled a challenge at me to fireman carry our lightest Marine team member alone. I was so completely spent by this point, I wondered if I could do it, but do it I did. Can remember it like it was yesterday. Course truly is insane... footage is of civilian teams. The military divisions took it VERY serious and didn't lollygag around like the folks in the video.

To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

What I am saying is... used to be tough enough to hang with my faster military brethren. Now I'm one of those slowazzcivilians. :smt010 So your "Oh well" is still warranted.

Sorry for the delay in responding, JT. Busier than a one legged man in an arse kicking contest. No... no rocking chair but there are occasional days I feel like it won't be long before I need one.

As to why I do the crazy amount of running I do even though I'm now a member of the slowazzcivilian club? It keeps me feeling young enough to not want the rocking chair, especially days I run in races. On race days always see lots of sights like the one below. Lifts my spirits and makes me feel like a teenager again.

You know, if they would wear thongs, many more men would run :-D and the women would always win the race :smt005

I'm gonna run the one in Georgia(mountain city). It'll be my first run of over a mile. Should be interesting.
