Who chases the thunderchickens?

Post by onefishtwofish »

About the time of year when the spring gobbling gets my mind off the flats, at least in the morning. Who else has both fevers? Dang work gets in the way of my avocation(s).
Ducks, turkeys, flats fishing. Who has time for golf?

Man, I got skunked last year, I'm hoping to make up for it this year. Unfortunately, I lose 3 weekends of turkey hunting to out of town weddings.... :smt011

Took Jr. on his first hunt Sat. It was youth weekend.I could'nt hunt but I called for him. Had two different gobblers answering from two different directions but neither would come in. We tried to move in on them but they both went completely silent. Got a new plan for them next time though.

I have been doing a little scouting. This mourning I went out and heard one way off but they are being pretty quit. I will be going this weekend and next weekend I will be going south for an Oceola. So that means my turkey hunting OCD will be keeping me from pre-fishing for the RT, but that's ok the only reason I fish is because I can't hunt that time of year anyway.

Couldnt get to the water so sunday morning we went scouting. Had three gobble first thing to a crow. We sat for a little while longer and had a hen yelping and cutting and couldnt resist messing with her. She came and went and the we decided it was time to go pick up the trail camera and hit the road. Crossed over the terrace and spotted two strutters with a big bird at half strut "along with 7 hens". Watched them play for a bit and we headed to the truck only to have a gobbler cut us off so we had to hide out for a bit. All in all 03-26-2011 is to far away. "thas georgia's new season opener"

I haven't hunted in Florida for a while, but I do some chasing in South Mississippi and in Eastern Tennessee. The Sevierville hunts in the mountains are amazing.
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark

I have always wanted to try some birds in the hills. I have killed Osceolas, but I want to try Rio and Merriams next.
