For the sake of the ones that had to work, I'll make a report. I hadn't had the boat out for 1.5 year, so I took my daughters fishing on Sat 3-19 and they caught 12 spanish, their first ever. So I was happy they enjoyed it. I knew the fish were there so I went back on Tues 3-22 by myself.
I had a goal of catching spanish mackeral on my little tiny reel with 2 lb test. I wanted to use tandum rigs to catch them two at a time (hooked up two but got cut off so never got a double). Also I wanted to throw everything in my tackle box that I thought might work. The best lure by far was a gotcha (because you don't miss many), followed by a white grub, 00 clark spoon, 3" silver side yozuri. Did not catch any on silver rattle trap or popper.
Final tally for 3-22 was 9 spanish and 1 blue in about 2 hours in the middle of the day. I had a starter solenoid go bad while I was on the flats, but I managed to get cranked by pulling it. I wasn't positive what the problem was so I wanted to get back to the river without delay.
I have never fished the west side of the St. Marks so I tried a Capt. Mike's pink spoon with a small white Gulp trailer. There were a ton of mullet there, and the dolphins were having a blast right beside the boat a couple of times. So that was entertaining. I have no confidence in the spoon. I was trying reeling and letting it flutter down. Not sure if that's how to work it for reds. I didn't catch the first one. I hooked up on a sea catfish. woo hoo. ha ha
Fishing is so expensive, with the fuel, lost lures, a stepped on rod (ouch) and boat upkeep. Maybe I should learn how to golf.
All in all it was a great day to enjoy the God's creation. If you can think of a kid to take fishing, catching spanish now would be a good choice.

Thanks for the good fishing report. Spanish can be fun to catch but usually cause me more problems that it is worth. When they show up, I leave.

Great job on the spanish and an even better deal on getting the kids out. Those are memories that last a long, long, long time.

Good deal on the spanish and making the kids smile. I love spanish and seeing a youngan with a big smile and a fish even better. Golf......nah can't eat a golfball.

Thanks for the good report, lordsfisher.
To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

These reports are driving me crazy. I went out today with hopes of hitting the flats but nooooo, the wind was crazy, crazy, crazy. I'm going to try again Friday.
