Mexico Beach Info??? Lodging/Bait/pinfish locations
Hello to all...
Thinking about trying out Mexico beach this year...Carrabelle is great but we just wanted to try something different....I have had several friends talk to be about the outstanding bottom fishing around Mexico beach, they all liked the car bodies and the others like the 18 mile bridge span......
I am hoping to get some info on thing like lodging (moderately priced) food (what's available).......
but most important is the BAIT!!!!!!!where do you find things like mackeral, squid and LY's........and secondly....where in the heck would you place a pinfish trap!!!!!! looking @ google earth I see no place such as any backwater or grass flats to place our trap.....any input would be greatly appreciated

We store a boat at Port St. Joe Marina and fish that area a good bit. Lodging is limited absent renting a condo. There a few hotels (just a few) and once you get towards summer, most require a two-nights stay.
A pinfish trap will have to be put in St. Joe Bay. The carbodies hold fish, but by the time snapper season gets here, the snapper are usually deeper. Sure things on fishing is king mackerel along the buoy line, the car bodies, and the Virginia Reef (all public numbers). Spanish are already there and the kings should be there within a couple of weeks.
Bluewater Outriggers and Half-Hitch are local bait and tackle stores and both stores are well stocked and have great folks working with them. They will provide help on fishing as well.
At times can pick up some LYs around the buoys.

BlueWater Outfitters across the street from Port St. Joe Marina has your tackle and bait needs. A sabiki or pinfish trap anywhere between Black's Island and Presnell's will get you plenty of livies. I can't help you much with lodging in MX Beach. The Port Inn in St. Joe is pretty reasonable and I can put you in contact with a townhouse owner on the Cape if you want.

That place looks real familiar but the guy in the yak looks kinda shady.

Sorry to derail Slayer. You'll enjoy the area though.

Showboats place is prime...
We also like the Driftwood Inn for quick trips.

Simple accommodations, kitchen in the room and right on the beach.

Hello - I just joined and this is the first post for me on this forum - I fish this area as much as possible - last time I fished MB I stayed at the place below - nothing fancy but it has good boat parking near the ramp and the price is economical for a 2 bd. The MB canal can hold some bait if you throw a net and has been a decent place for pinfish traps as well - I really like blue runners by the buoy line on sabikis if I can get them. Good Luck!
