3-25-11busy weekend

Post by red_yakker »

My new in-laws were in town this weekend, and so was my buddy Seth. I had promised both Seth and my father-in-law, Al, that I would put them on some fish.
I took off from work Friday at noon and took Al fishing first. We put in and headed north to the Warrior. It started out slow, we each got a hit or two around the oyter bars, but not much. He caught a short trout and a short red, I caught a needlefish and a blowfish. We made a move to some cleaner water, and I caught a nice 21 inch trout pretty quick. About half an hour and 0 fish later, we moved and set up a drift over a creek mouth. We caught 3 trout on this drift, 20", 19" & 18". Did the drift again with no luck, moved over a little and picked up a 16 inch trout. Moved back over the other way and Al picked up a 21 inch redfish. By then our stomaches were growling and the grease was getting hot back home, so headed on in. He was using a paddle-tail grub and I was throwing a Catch2000.
Saturday evening, I took Seth and tried the same thing, but it didn't work out as well. We didn't hit the water til almost 5:00 and apparently someone else had already been working my trout. It was a quick trip and the sun started setting after only one keeper trout on a Catch2000 around the oyster bars.
Sunday morning I took Seth again, but when we got to the ramp, we were greeted with pea-soup thick fog. My GPS had died the day before, and I forgot to charge it, so we just hung out around the creekmouth and waited for the fog to lift. Around 10:30 the fog had lifted enough and we hit up the honey-hole. Seth caught a fat 24" trout on his first cast, I caught a nice 20" trout a couple of drifts later. We had to be back home for lunch, so we snapped a couple of pictures and headed in. Both our fish were caught on Gulp.
We didn't catch huge numbers or anything, but we worked hard and ended the weekend with some quality fish.
I'm glad they both came into town and gave me an excuse to fish all weekend, but I am worn out. Hopefully I can get them to alternate weekends in the future. :-D
