Red/Trout Tournament Day Keaton 4/2/11
My partner Warrior and I pull out to go to the ramp at Keaton at 6:30 a.m.
On the way to the ramp he tells me about the 28/29 inch trout he has caught all week in one particular spot.
When we get launched and on plane,we come around the corner with just enough daylight to see a boat perched on the spot.
We pull up short and start fishing in a very steady breeze.
The water we were fishing wasn't holding the big mamas so we left.
Tried a couple ditches nearby with no luck.
We made a 15 mile run through 4 to 6 inches of water depth to another usually on fire spot.
Only found one nice red there that just wanted to nip at the plug.
Fired up the tunnel boat and made a 20 mile run back the other way through the same 4 to 6 inch water.
The tide was very slow to turn and rise.
Ashley hooked up and boated a nearly 8 pound legal red on this spot.
We were dis-heartened when he released it due to not finding even one of the 9 hooks in the mouth.
Foul hooked fish aren't allowed to be weighed.
When the day was done, the best fish on the boat was a four pound trout.
We found the bite to be very slow everywhere we fished, totally opposite of the great bite at the NFGFC tournament 3 weeks ago.
Oh well. Some days they bite, some days they don't.

We had a similar experience. Had a 5.5 trout and 7-pound redfish pre-fishing the club tourney a couple weeks ago and also found some decent fish Friday. Tried the same game plan on Saturday but the water took forever to come in. We did stick a 4.75 and 5-pound trout early. The only red we could manage was a little over 3 so we decided not to make the drive to the weigh-in. Our consolation was banging out about 10 four-pound trout when you and Ashley snuck in behind us.
Oh well, had a fun time, caught a lot of fish. Congrats to the winners!

Way to be honest jt, lesser fishermen would have kept the fish and taken their chances with the polygraph.

True Integritry is what you do when no one is watching. Integrity is worth more than any money prize. We usually only get one chance at integrity. I commend any man that has maintained it and is above reproach. Well done!Jumptrout51 wrote:We were dis-heartened when he released it due to not finding even one of the 9 hooks in the mouth.

Guys it was a decision we didn't have to make.
The rules made it for us.
We just followed the rules.
Rules is Rules.
