Keaton Beach Sat/Sun 4/08 - 4/09

Post by leonreno »

Fished out of Keaton Beach Saturday and Sunday. Saturday we found the trout near Spring Warrior, and they were still there Sunday. We did not catch a large number but we did catch some solid size trout on both days. We (four of us) had 10 trout over 20 inches. A 24", 2 - 23" and 7 - 22" - 20" and had about 25 more keeper size with most being in the 17" - 19" size. We maybe caught 8 short trout both days. They were all caught on either live shrimp, live pinfish or cut pinfish. The live pinfish accounted for most of the fish. The pinfish were hard to catch in the dirty water so we had to run to catch them in the crystal clear water where they were much easier to catch.

I am probably going to invest in a pinfish trap, anyone have any suggestions on a good one?

Good catch. I have looked at traps too. Wonder how long it takes to get them in the trap?

The problem I have with traps is keeping people from messing with them they either take what is in there or take the trap.

AMS in Medart for the traps. Usually takes at least overnight or 24hrs for enough to put in the live well. But you never know. Some just leave them out all the time but you run the risk of theft of the pins and/or the trap.

Put the pinfish trap in the canal at Keaton or Dekle overnight with chicken necks and gizzards. You will have a trap full in the morning.
