Ramp rage

Post by Reel Cowboy »

With the weather warming up quickly and the fish killing everything in sight, I thought this article was timely.

You would think this would be common sense!

"The time to transfer ice chests, fishing tackle, water skis and anything else into or out of a boat and otherwise prepare to launch or drive home needs to be done in the parking lot, not on the ramp"

I don't know about rage, but I was almost in tears the day Atticus and I watched a guy launch his 22' tandom axel trailer along with his wife, light plug and tower boat into the KB canal last year. :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 Then he started swiming after it.... :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

You need to wait a few months though. The opening weekend of scallop season brings 'em all out. Every jack wagon with a pontoon boats, jon boats, the whole shooting match will be there for the 1st time this year trying to back down the ramp, launch and then load his stuff at the same time.
Capt. Dave Lear wrote a great article a few years ago about this very subject. Maybe he'll see this and chime in with it again.

Other than life or death situations, never seen a more panic-stricken father than the one who on Father's Day a few years back told his boy he was going to let him motor the boat up on to the trailer.

Tide at Ecky was ripping and between the time the Dad went to get his truck to the time he pulled down the ramp his son had tried making so many adjustments to hold the boat at the ramp that he had turned it backwards. As the father was just getting the trailer wet, son was gunning her in reverse! You wouldn't believe how fast that father jumped out of the truck to stop him.

Saturday @ the Fort, I thought how nice to have a prep area before the ramp. Ofcourse, since (these) Georgians can't read obviously, they went straight to the ramp, backed up and stopped short of the top of the ramp to unload their stuff before putting the boat all the way in - DA's! Oh, they must have have a season pass since they didn't leave their tokens in the dropbox..
