St. Johns river help?

Post by kirt123 »

A couple friends and I are heading to St. Johns (Georgetown to be exact) this weekend, any tips on where to start for Bass? Best Lures? From what I have read alot of people use shiners. I usually stick to artificial for freshwater though. I have only been there once and really only bream fished but was wanting to get in a little bass fishin. I normally only fish salt so any tips for the area would be appreciated.

Tin can may give ya a few pointers ifin ya ask him thrue a PM :-D He fishes tourney's, so ya can't blame him for not giving much info  The few times I have fished it, we fished the Oklawaha river and down into Little Lake George. My nephew fished Shinners exclusivly on his boat and did get bigger fish "cost him a small fourtune also". The rest of us "poorer folks" :smt012 fished mainly top water the first hour of light and then went to shallow divers for the most part. A few used worms and deeper divers, and caught about the same amount of fish with them also  I couldn't tell ya what colors we used except that the blue mackrel seemed to be the color of choice for diving plugs :smt004 Good luck and tight lines

I WOULD RECOMMEND TO FISH THE SALT SPRINGS RUN AROUND THE MOUTH AND THE WEST SIDE OF THE RIVER AND UP ANY LITTLE RIVELET YOU COME TO. WORK THE LILLY PADS GOOD WITH A BLACK OR PURPLE 8 INCH WORM. IN THE LATE EVENING I WOULD WORK THE WEST SIDE OF THE RIVER WITH ANY LOUD BUZZ BAIT OR TOP WATER POPPING PLUG. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY I WOULD TROLL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RIVER WITH ANY LIGHT GREEN,BLUE, OR SILVER PLUG, LIKE THE YOZURI, MIRRO-LURE, REDFIN TYPE PLUG. I HAVE CAUGHT SOME MONSTERS DOWN WHERE THE RIVER NARROWS BY TROLLING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY.
