St. Marks Trout 4-29-11

Post by Jhults11 »

Decided to take a buddy of mine from Thomasville out on the big pond today. He insisted on wearing that god aweful hat even though I threatened to gut him and use him for cobia chum if he brought that ugly orange thing on my dads boat! Im sure thats why i caught 6 and he caught 2 lol! Left shell island fish camp in st marks at 9:00 am and were greeted with a stiff NW wind howling at about 20-25kts! :o Hit some solid 2-3 footers going around the bird rack heading east. Made our way down towards cobb rocks and grey mare. Fished 3 -4 ft with gulp and topwater and only had 2 keepers by 12  ! It layed down to glass by noon and the fish really turned on! Moved around a lot and found a good concentration of fish holding in 4ft at about 230. By 330 we had 7 keepers to 20" and a 18" Spaniard and 11" Rock Bass. Not a bad day at all considering the slow start. Jeff caught and few and I caught a few more...Go FSU....get rid of the ugly blue and orange and catch more fish...i dont think he bought it lol! All fish were caught on np 3" gulps under cajun thunders and skitterwalks and Top Dogs. Topwater bite was suprisingly good between 1 and 2 pm. Saw a c130 dropping flairs south of us about 20 miles out. Freaked out sea tow and tow boat, they thought someone was in distress and were hauling ass in that direction when the pilot finally came over 16 and said it was a traing run and not for anyone to be alarmed. Sea tow and tow boat didnt like that based on the comments I heard them reply. Im with them, u think the air force would make everyone aware of practice "flair droppings" going on in our area :smt009 . Anyways good luck to all this weekend im sure it will be a parking lot out there between rock the dock tourney and the good spring time weather. Water temp was 72 in the am and 76 when we left. Tight lines salute1
