May 3-Oyster Bay
I fished Oyster Bay today with a couple of my buddies. I was hoping to run out around shell point to fish some of my spots out there but I knew it wasn't happening as soon as I felt the wind. We fished out of my buddy's boat that is a bit bigger than mine, but still only about 16 feet. The forecast called for 10-15 mph winds, I'd say it was more like 25-30 the whole time I was out there. It wasn't gusting 25-30, it was just steady blowing 25-30 all day. We launched at daylight and were off the water by 11 30. We fished one of the only spots that was calm enough to fish and luckily found some fish. We could see 2-3 footers rolling way up in Oyster Bay, let's just say conditions were more than tough. We fished within 500 yards of where we put the boat in and never changed spots all day. If we had tried to run out past where we fished I think it would have been ugly so luckily we didn't need to. Between the three of us, we caught 31 keeper spanish and 2 keeper trout. It was pretty much nonstop action. Not many pictures because of that, and we released most of the fish. My buddy kept four of the spanish and all other fish were released. Most of the fish were caught on live shrimp. Tough day on the water, but at least we caught some fish. Tight lines.
