They don't tear too easily. Usually catch multiple fish on one before changing it out. Also doesn't hook much floating grass. The beauty is, they're quick to rig, have great action and aren't expensive. DOA CAL 5.5 inch jerk bait. This is the glow, but I also like new penny and Stark Naked (green back/pearl belly). The hook is a 3/0 Eagle Claw circle tied on with a loop knot (with small loop). 20-pound Ande fluorocarbon leader tied with double uni to 8-pound Power Pro braid.

On my last fishing trip I tried something like this but hooked the shadd going in the throat coming out the head. It was windy and had a difficult time letting it rest for long.

Silverking, do you anchor or fish this way on calm periods?

SK, I was using the Swivel to add a little weight. Didnt even think about it throwing the balance off. I will try it without the swivel and use a loop knot next time.

After looking at your pic I noticed something else. I tore the tip of the tail so it would be two seperate peices. I thought it was a split tail that was just not torn during the manufacturing process (like the rage tail baits). This might have been my problem. :hammer:

Thanks again!

SS, I don't anchor, mostly on the push pole, although now I've got the Power Pole to hold position when I get into a hot bite. This set-up works in a chop if you slow it down but it's best when it's calmer. If it is choppy and I need it to sink I"ll either rig it with a 1/8- to 1/4-oz jig head or a swim bait hook (with molded weight on the hook shank) in the same sizes. On this rig, the hook is through the chin and out the head also. Hard to tell at this angle.

Aqua, I use Medium Teramar 7'- and 7'6" spinners for my charters and with the reels loaded with light braid, you can cast the CALs a long ways without any weight.
And anytime I can avoid extra knots (possible failure points) and keep the lure as natural as possible, I do it.

That's a DOA product as well right? I think Kevin's has them.

DOA makes the jig heads, but I'm using Eagle Claw swim bait hooks.

Sorry RC, but I can't afford custom rods for work. Clients have to make do with Stradics and Teramars. I'm a Shimano man, remember? But I splurge on the customs for me. :)
