Me and a couple of friends had the day off so we headed to the Lighthouse early. There was a pretty decent chop and 15kt. Winds out of the South. The run out to the Birdrack was bumpy and wet. We ran east, the seas calmed down as soon as we got out of the channel, but the winds stayed fairly stiff most the day. We set up a drift in about 4’ of water and fished towards the shoreline until we hit about 2’. Didn’t get a bite so we changed locations a little and set up another drift in 3.5’ of water and started catching a few fish here and there. We never really got into them heavy, but we did manage some nice Trout. We kept 5; biggest was 20”, next was a 19” then 2 18” and a 16”. We caught 4-5 more that were under 15”. We never found any Spanish; this was the first time in a few weeks we haven’t caught a few mixed in with the Trout.
Most fish were caught on soft plastics, either on a jig head or weightless (multiple colors seemed to work), the 20” trout was caught on a MirrOlure. Forgot to look at water temps.
Here is a pic of the 18 and 20 on the cleaning table. We didnt take any pics once we started fishing so this is the best I could do.
Nice sunrise as we were leaving the Lighthouse Canal
