St. Marks - 5/8/11
We started the day kind of slow, getting to the Lighthouse ramp @ 8:30 or so and was surprised only a couple boats were there. Leaving the canal was beautiful with calm seas greeting us.
We loaded up on pinfish in short time and headed out to our first and only spot of the day. Once we get anchored over the structure the pins go down and about 10 minutes later a undersize group is pulled in. 30 minutes later my rod gets bent over by a nice 20lb Cobia.
After that one goes in the release well some more pins go back down. About an hour later after some more chumming and contemplating of leaving 4 Cobia come right up to the boat, 1 being massive. My buddy throws a pin right in front of her face and the fight is on.
About 15 minutes later we finally get this beast on the boat and realize it is way to big for the release well especially with one already in there. Well out goes the 20lber and we toss this big un in there with the tail still sticking out. High fives all around and we realize we need to call it a day after this monster was landed.
On the water at 8:30 and off by noon. Wish all our fishing days could go so well. This fish maxed out the 50lb scale we had. we estimate it to be between 58-62lbs, which lead to many tasty Cobia steaks to go around.

It is my buddy Russell's boat. I am pretty sure you 2 have run into each other a few times before. I've been fishing off of it for about 4 or 5 years now. They are such great boats.captkeyser wrote:Hot Dayum!!! You must own a Back Country.Congrats, headed out tomorrow.

That day I would say about 10 miles out, but we catch them anywhere from the stake line out to Marker 24.

Looking back on this old post was a blast. I wish my old buddy Louis still lived here.
