Pecanman, I've only been to horeshoe beach once, but it was pretty boat-friendly. The main channel from the boat ramp is unmistakable, as rock-wall jetties on both sides for what seems like a mile. It spits you out in safe water, and you can run around most anywhere. Trout should be fairly easy to find in 3 to 6 foot of water (no guarantees). Do like everyone else does; look for more than one boat in the same area, and join them (not too close, of course).
To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

You'll enjoy Horseshoe Beach, Pecanman. It is a very nice place! My brothers favorite place to fish. When the tide is high you can also run the old channel but it isn't very well marked unless you know.
