St. Andrews Bay 5-21-11

We have done really well on trout this year but the redfish have been few and far between so we made the decision to go fishing this past weekend for redfish. Launched slightly before daylight and quickly found the redfish and a few trout in skinny water. Had a blast throwing topwater, doa's and gold spoons to them. Ended up catching most of the fish on topwater and gold spoons in 12" of water. Many of the reds were over-slot fish (30-33). Ended up catching a few trout after the sun came up on suspended lures in 3-4 feet of water on broken bottom. The big ladyfish (skpjack) have really shown up on the flats. They were destroying bait balls and making the flats appear to be covered with life. We caught 2-3 ladies for every trout we put in the boat. It seemed like the ladyfish were just more aggressive and would beat the trout to our lures. We ended up keeping 6 trout, 2 being over 20".

Nice, buddy of mine did well in the 1 foot deep water too. Said he spooked more than he caught, but he caught quite a few. I will be over that way in two weekends, so after I poke around Choct, I may head back that way one day too. From my house, it is not really further than my usual haunts and it is some pretty water.
Ducks, turkeys, flats fishing. Who has time for golf?
