changes every year. One good indicator is the samplings that FWC will conduct and post on their webpage.

We enjoy scalloping at Keaton but I hear that St Marks is looking good this year. We will know in a few weeks.

It varies each year. Keaton area is the most consistent, but other areas such as St. Marks can have some really great years too.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

ok perfect.. thank yall. About how far off of keaton beach should you go. I have never been there?
Re: Where is the best Scolloping on the big bend area
I've found this to mostly be true.
Head out the channel to the stake line, turn west from keaton, or east from St. Marks and look for the armada. Anchor up, dive in, and get your limit.

You can find them in anywhere from 2-3 feet of water out to around 10 (most people prefer to dive for them in shallower water). Once the season starts, it's easy to find them. Just look for the huge mass of boats anchored up with dive flags flying. I haven't seen but 1 or 2 scallops in the area North of Keaton where I normally fish, but they are usually thicker South of Keaton between Piney Point and Steinhatchee where there's less fresh water.
A few years ago, they were plenty thick in the area North of Keaton, but last year I had trouble finding many at all without riding half-way to Steinhatchee.
