Cut Bait and Cat Fish Problems
Fished wakulla beach late afternoon yesterday using strips of cut mullet on jig heads on the bottom. Caught nothing but loads of cat fish. Hopin to get reds trout or flounder. Should i get it off the bottom? Or just be patient?

Did you walk east or west to one of the creek mouths, or just fish right off the beach? Right off the beach is just a shallow mud flat.

i walked all the way west. it was dead low so i was standing on the oyster bar fishing

Should be a good spot for a red then. They should be moving up and down the creek on a rising tide. I've been in that creek before on a low tide, found a deep hole and caught all the rat reds I wanted.

Re: Cut Bait and Cat Fish Problems
Your catching catfish cause of the dead bait.
If you want reds just use an artificial. Also if you stick gulp on that jig head your still going to get catfish.

HOOK ONE OF THOSE SLIME CATFISH ON A #4 HOOK UNDER A CAJUN THUNDER FLOAT, TOSS IT AS FAR OUT AS YOU CAN, IF THERE ARE ANY TARPON IN THE AREA HANG ON. THEY LOVE LIVE CATFISH , BACK WHEN I USE TO USE LIVE BAIT THAT IS ALL WE USED DOWN IN TAMPA BAY.

Im a wader so I'm assuming there won't be any tarpon that I can get to. Unless anyone knows any spots I might have a chance at? I would absolutely love to try to catch a tarpon.
