August 7-Lighthouse

Post by LucWilliams »

Been really busy the last couple weeks and have not even had the chance to fish much. Between a week long trip to Baltimore to see family, and my brother Jono getting married, bigger things were happening than fishing. Finally got a chance to get back on the water today. It was my last trip of the summer fishing with my Dad because I leave Tuesday for preseason and school begins shortly after. We got up at 4 45, left the house shortly after 5. Hit Jerry's, filled the boat with gas, and headed for the lighthouse. Second boat out of the canal this morning. Ran to our hole and it didn't take long. In about the first 10 minutes, we had our limit of reds. Limeted out before the sun even came up. We stayed in this spot and added 3 more keepers to the count. All of these fish were caught on shrimp. We wanted to run east to an area that has produced this summer so we stopped at the lighthouse and loaded up with pinfish and mud minnows. Got to our spot to the east and probably fished that area for about an hour and a half. Added a 23 inch red to the cooler and caught a 26.5 inch red that we released. Both these fish were caught on small pinfish. Also added a 19 inch trout to the cooler, caught him on a mud minnow. We planned to fish until the fish stopped biting and then maybe scallop but about 1 30 the storms had us practically surrounded so we ran for the hill. A great day on the water. Got one last trip planned for tomorrow with a few of my friends. After that, I won't have a chance to fish these waters until at least November and probably more like December....better live it up tomorrow! Tight lines.

Thanks for a great Summer Luc. I'll remember this Summer as the one where 3 times, you went after something you never got before, and got 'em - cobia - check, tarpon - check (amazing post), and big shark - check.

I'll be waiting.

Good job, Luc. Hope you had a great summer. Enjoyed your posts. Good luck back @ school.
Nice reds. Where did you get the shrimp? Last trip (early July), there were none to be had. Will be heading to St. Joe next week w/ family. Hope to have something to post then.

Preciate it Bullet. I think that shrimp are in just about everywhere around St. Marks, very small though. If was definitely good to also have some live baitfish to throw. Good luck in St. Joe, I've never really fished that area so no tips from me but good luck!

Bullet - I will be at St Joe / Mexico Beach this weekend as well I'll have the radio on 16. Give me a call. Maybe between the two of us we can find some fish. I will most likely be on the water early each day.
