Had my last fishing trip of the summer today with a couple of my buddies. Had to wait for shrimp until Shell Island opened at 6 30. I remember the good days when Scott would open up Jerry's at any time, you would call him and he would wake up to get you live shrimp. It makes fishing tough if you have to wait til 6 30 for shrimp when the fish are only biting for those first couple hours of the day before it gets too hot. Anyways, came out of the canal about the time the sun came up. Headed to our first spot and it produced one keeper red at 21 inches. We then caught lots of pins and mud minnows and headed to another spot. It was game on here, we ended up getting 4 more keeper reds. They were 25, 25, 26, and 26. Big healthy fish. My 25 inch red had 11 spots, sure wish I had him for the Trout Shootout in a couple weeks that I won't be able to fish. Saw who I thought was Jamal out there and he headed our way. Turns out his battery was dead and he needed a jump. We tried to jump him but I don't think my buddy's battery had enough to jump him so he had to wait for TowBoat. We moved on to another spot and caught a few more short trout but that was it. Before we knew it, there was a nasty storm in the direction of the lighthouse. We started running in hard and barely beat it in. Saw TowBoatUS on the way to help Jamal when we were running in. Hope that he got it all sorted out and beat the storm in. Saw some others out there as well that didn't seem too concerned about the storm, including a few yakkers. Hope everyone made it in safely. This was my last trip in our area until probably December. Tight lines and good luck to everyone, go get em for me. I will be thinking about and missing our waters while I continue to try to learn the Pensacola area.
We went for the picture on the cover of the latest Woods and Water with the last couple pictures haha.
I got to chat with Denise not that long ago at the grocery store, said they both miss the shop and the craziness but are very happy. Sure miss those cuban sammiches and Scott's "you know it!!!!"
Scott was a "legend in his time", i sure miss walking in at 6am to get shrimp to a "high^^ in the sky" scott, always made my day LMAO!!! Btw nice run on the feeshes this summer. I sure hated it heading back to college to play ball when i had spent all summer raggin the fish. Enjoy school though, the fish are always here!
