How do you get to this landing? I usually use the one at the lighthouse. Anything to watch out for before reaching the flats?

Thanks

Take Woodville Hgwy. south until you reach St. Marks and you can only go left or right. Left takes you to Sheilds Marina. Take a right then take a left on Fire Escape Road, the landing is at the end of the road just past the Fort.

Do I sound paranoid? I've just upgraded boats from 4hp to 50hp and I'm bound to run my new Yamaha into something.

Boats.net (dealer around Lake Placid) seemed to be the best price for a new Yamaha if anyone is looking.

Just a side question, but is this the site of the old Salt Works operated during the 1850-60s? My G-G Grandfather operated a Salt Works at the mouth of the St. Marks River and Gulf of Mexico from about 1855 to 1863 when Union gunboats and Marines destroyed it during the War Between the States. THANKS!

Al, I don't know about St Mark's salt works, but there was a large salt works on Cape San Blas that was shelled and destroyed in 1862 by Union forces.

I'm embarrassed not to know my area history better. I believe the St. Marks fort was occupied by Confederate soldiers during the War for Southern Independence but I don't know about the saltworks. The only saltworks I know of is the one at San Blas that Ferris mentioned but someone recently told me there was one around St. Marks somewhere at one time.
