Take A Kid Fishing

Good afternoon folks.

I just had a phone call from Don England (Greenbone). He has received 2 or 3 calls recently from the Fla Baptist Childrens Home asking if the event could still be held this year. Don generally heads it up but circumstances (no job) earlier this year prevented him from making the commitment to bring it together. In the past it has been held during May or June. Earlier in the year, Don was concerned that he might need to move out of State for a job and didn't want to be in the middle of the planning and then have to pull out. The good news is that Don now has a stable job and he ask me to put up something on the forum to see if we could get enough captains together to put the event together durning October. Considering that Don works every other Saturday and the FSU football schedule, it looks to me like Saturday October 15th would be the most likely date. Water should be cooling off by then and the fishing better than in past years. FSU has an away game with Duke although the time is still listed as TBA.

Here is some general information: There are about 22-24 little ones ranging from teenager to 5 or 6 years old. We would leave out of the Fort as usual in St Marks. We would need captains willing to accomodate 1 or 2 youngsters. We would be looking at perhaps 12 to 15 boats in total. The club is not expected to provide all the captains, but we need to know how many would be willing to participate so we can determine if we can even proceed with the planning. Fishing is from 8 to 12, back in by 1pm for lunch at the pavillion. Participating captains who have youngsters are encouraged to include them on board. Kids are Kids and having had my own granddaughter and son along before, they always mix and enjoy each other very well. Most of these boys and girls have never been on a boat or fished from one before. You will never have a better behaved youngster on your boat. They are very appreciative and they show it. This is your best chance ever to be a hero to a youngster. They will never forget it and neither will you. If you ever wanted to make a kid happy and have unforgetable memories,this is a day you won't forget for a long time.

Unfortunately, my family and I will be meeting my brothers family in the Keys that week. I think having it in the Fall will actually improve the fishing, so it should be a good time.

Thanks for the response Steve. Should be a great time to visit the Keys as well The rest of you folks check your schedules when you get a chance and set aside a Saturday morning for some kids if it fits.

Count me in.
I have a 14' Carolina Skiff and can accommodate one youngster. I have the necessary safety equipment for the child and would love to have the chance to expose a kid to the sport that has given me so much enjoyment over the years.

Thanks Sir reel. Captains, sorry for short notice but responce has still been great. We have 6-7 captains included Salty Gator and fishinfool so far.
