Big Bend Classic, Who Plans to Fish & a couple of questi

Post by Frank Bradfield »

Me and my partner ( pinfishking) plan to fish the classic this year. We usually fish out of econfina but it seems this is now off limits ( seems silly ) so i guess we will trailor up the road for 4 days of fishing to Panacea. We emailed them about the rest of the big bend and over to Keaton and they said there was not enough participation, ahh we just wanted to put in down there, we'd drive with our fish ( if it was big enough ) oh well, and just 1 more thing, has Mexico Beach always been in the Classic ? Is it in the Big Bend ? Just curious. Seems like some deeper water , closer in might benefit that area with some bigger fish, so if anyone has comments , good , bad, helpful or not ,please feel free to let me know.. thanks much... frank , P.S. ( We are fishing, good, bad or ugly )

I've never fished the big bend classic. I've read the rules, and looked at the format. Eveen though there are sportsman classes, it appears to me the tournament is geared toward the commercial boys. They're funny with their rules. But, one good fish could take a check. Good luck.

Tin Can, I also emailed OAR about Keaton not being included (I normally fish from there). They told me the same thing they told Frank. Lack of participation even though there was an extra $350 if the largest trout was weighed in at Keaton.
If you look at the fish catagories you can see they are geared for deeper water. My son came in fourth in the Kingfish division 2 years ago and that took a 2 hour run SW out of Keaton just to reach 60 of water. If you go out of Carrabelle 2 hours will put you in over a 100 feet of water, where the Wahoo and Big Grouper are. The commercial boys have there own day, on Thursday. Friday and Saturday are for everyone else. It is still a great tounament.
Best of Luck if you fish it.
