Steinhatchee

Post by jjewell99 »

Headed down to Stinhatchee October 5 -8th. I have read a few fishing reports and concluded that most of the action is south out of the chanel, anybody agree or disagree. For the last couple of years I have had better luck with trout north and redfish to the south. The temperatures for this time frame look great but a northeast wind at 10-15 dont really excite me too much. Any help would be apperciated. Thanks

I will be in steinhatchee this weekend, and i was also wondering where the fish are biting best. I think we will spend one day in the flats and maybe go to the reef on saturday.

Must be a big secret.......everyone must not want to give their hot spots away. We have 4 days to fish so hopefully we can get on them in a day or two. If not I will just give up.

Yea you are probably right. As long as we catch enough to take to Fiddlers each day, it has been a good day!

I don't think Mel is there anymore. I think y'all are right, no secret spot. You will do great on trout in 2-4 feet. Good luck

You are SO RIGHT...I keep telling all these people to share the knowledge but they all want to act like Republicans and keep it for themselves. Seventy to 80% of what they have learned should be put on here for everyone to use. They can catch a fish now and then on the other 20-30%.
Elect me Forum Manager and you won't even have to go fish. Just hang out at the dock and collect fish from everyone else who put in the time and expense to find fish.
If that is too much trouble I will develop a infrastructure program to build a conveyor belt to your house and ship the fish to you.
If that does not work I will lease Gulf fishing rights to Japan,China and Korea to come catch our fish and sell them to you.
They can be delivered by a bullet train from L.A. to your door.

Just to give you all a report on how we did in steinhatchee this past week.the wind was strong out of the north-northeast, so it was hard to troll around casting for redfish however we did manage to catch some around the points of hardy point and rock point. We did also manage to catch a couple up in dallus creek. The biggest being 25" and it came off the rocks and oysters of rock point. All the fish were caught on gulp and jighead, no floater.

As for trout we had some luck out from hardy point but our best luck came out from rock point in 3-5' of water, look for the mixed bottom and we caught several. 3 fish over 21" and a bunch in the 18-19" range. Most of the fish were caught on small pinfish under a cork(keep that cork popping). Some were caught on gulp on jigs with or without a float. Hope this helps somebody. We had a good time and look forward to our next trip.

Sounds like you had a good trip. Thanks for the report. Considering the response you got, you must be a real "trouper" to post such a detail report. I fish out of Keaton so could not share any information with you on Steinhatchee. I also go north instead of south so that area is unknown to me.

I might need to start fishing south!
