Dog Island/Lanark Sat. 6/5

Post by Dale Hollow »

Skeeter and I hit it wide open this morning, in the water by 6:15 after picking up some bait and headed out while it was still dark.

What a wonderful sunrise! It's been since last summer since I had been in the water that early! Awesome... Water was dead calm, no wind.

Hit some usual spots and picked up a couple short trout, and one keeper. Ladyfish, sharks (1-4ft), and numerous trash fish kept us busy for a couple of hours. I don't target those trash fish; but, I mostly fish for the thrill of the catch, so, we were having fun.

I hit a reel screamer, got it into the boat, looked like a 22'' trout. While trying to measure it, it flopped back into the water! At this point, we only had one in the box! :hammer: :hammer: Skeeter looked at me and only smiled and said "that was our sacrifice back to the fish gods, and maybe he would look kinder to us rest of the day." I was expecting to hear a lot of chit from him; however, it was only mentioned a couple of times throughout the day!

Turn out that he was right. Around 10 am or so, got into keepers on every cast, had to work the C/T real slow in the very calm water. Landed 7 keepers 17 - 20 with 2 over.

Got checked by the man while out on the water! They were very kind. Checked for life jackets, license, and fish.

End of the day, we limited trout (10) with a +1 for the one what got out of the boat.

While skirting back down through the bay, noticed a recognizable boat 'G3
with 'Sopchoppy Redneck' on the side. Went over and introduced myselft. Wevans, Hope you did good in the tournament.

Going again tomorrow, wife and kids are with the inlaws in upstate NY.

Skeeter, here's to another great day on the water
