Only place on the Refuge I've seen larger gators is the northern border levee of Stoney Bayou Pond #2, about 2mi east of Lighthouse Rd. Wadefishing before dawn/after dusk there = death wish.
:smt107 Wade fishing Stoney Bayou Pond #2?!?! My wife and I hike that area a good bit (or used to pre-baby) and I have seen them stacked up like cord wood on that north bank. Dawn, dusk, or high fricking noon you have have got to have some big ones to go in that water!!! The fishing is pretty good back there this time of year. If you are willing to hike a few miles you can switch from bass to reds just by walking over a levee. However....when we went last October I counted a grand total of 9 rattlers. One so close before he rang that I had to check my pants twice :D
