saint marks 10/15 high number mixed bag

Post by bigshrek »

Me and a buddy decided to give the lighthouse area try again. we hit the water around 8 and threw the cast net for some pin fish and any other bait we could use for cut bait. Headed east out of the channel to some bars but it was only a foot deep so that wasnt going to work. Headed out to about 15 foot and caught a couple nice 14 inch sea bass on white glow gulps. We also caught a fish i have never caught before. It looked like a speckled trout with no spots. think is was a weak fish but im not to certain. We caught four of those and decided to head in the to fish the flats. First stop we make we catch ten fish on ten casts varying from lady fish to sea bass to some trout on the white glow gulp. for some reason i tried throwing a 2 inch gulp peeler crap on a popping cork and landed a nice 19.5 inch trout. after that we headed to a diff spot and things really heated up Switched back to a white glow gulp and the fish really started bitting. Between me and my buddy we caught twenty 15 inch plus trout, 5 -18 inch spanish mackerel, 10 sea bass, a couple sail cats, 2 bluefish and four of the fish species i was unfamiliar with. all fish except for a few ladyfish and 2 trout were caught on white glow gulps and pinfish under a popping cork. so it was a great day for us because the past couple of trips we struggled to get more then five fish in the boat. there were alot of boats around us so I hope those people had a good fishing day as well.

Speckled trout with no spots sounds like a sand trout. They are common in spots...

I catch them surf fishing quite a bit.

Good eating!!
