Gamin 541s Power Issue?

Post by CaptReelThyme »

Got on boat today. Garmin would not power on. It worked fine yesterday. Seems screen went from off to a darker black. Checked fuses and wiring, all good. All other electronics work. Any Ideas?

You have power at the connection on the back of the unit?

Yes. Everything was hooked up properly. It happened a month or so ago, and I just messed around by holding power button an finally it came on. I take the unit off an cap adapter when I was boat down. It is weird. I am looking to see if any one knows what possibly may have caused this before I drop some coin at shields. Thanks for the assistance

If the screen gets darker after you power on unit then the unit has power because that is the LCD panel powering on. It sounds like an internal GPS issue but since you say that you remove the unit after use you may also want to look at connector and make sure none of the pins have been pushed back into the connector.

I am not sure if there is a way to reset the device to factory settings but that may be worth a try. I found this link for some different models so you may some combination of keys on the 541. http://www.webtlk.com/2009/07/13/how-to ... ance-mode/

My Garmin starts to go wacky when my battery is getting low.
