Cran I make 4-5 trips to Ky every year to bow/rifle hunt and to visit my grandmother and uncles.Anyways I have 4 boys 10-8-6 and almost 3. My oldest son has taken deer the last to years so this year was Thans turn.Like I said I've had two trip there already and had scouted a few deer for him to take a shot at. Left Woodville 11/18 for W.Ky. Sat. morning I hunted by myself to almost perfect weather, watch the deer in full rut(that has got to be one of the coolest thing in the world to see,to me)does running, bucks chasing, fighting and just plain out stand-offs.Sat. afternoon got than to the box stand bout 4, got him still and started see deer within 15 min. After 30 min. I ask Than if he liked to fish or hunt better, he said fishing was much more fun, minutes later one of Than deer walk in the field, I told him " that's your deer buddy, you ready".We got the gun up and got him steady giving him a pep talk while trying to stay calm myself I pusted the safety off and told him to take his time and slowly put the trigger, one minute later he has not pulled the trigger, back on safe.I ask him "Do you want to shot this deer?" He says yes but can't hold steady, we adjust. Again I say take your time, slowly pull, another minute goes by, back on safe. I ask again "do you want to shoot him ?" you don't have to if you don't, again he says yes. Pep talk is ongoing, keeping it simple. Back on fire, take your time but not too much, when the crosshairs are there pull. He finally pulls, hits the deer, deer bucks once and down !!! I yell "BIG BUCK DOWN" All the feelings you think a daddy would have, I had. We sat a few more minutes while text messages went out by the hundreds, I couldn't take it any longer. Got out of the stand got to the deer, make sure he it dead and call his mama. Than didn't make a text book shot but it was a kill shot and anytime you get your game it is a good shot !!! Like I said he is a main frame 8pt that was a little broke-up from fighting but still getting him mounted. Than is a quite 8 yr old that will do the things that he thinks you want him to do, saying that, is the reason why I ask and told him that he did not have to shoot that deer or any deer if he didn't want to. Btw he had never shot this rifle before Sat. morning, we pratice with a .22 in the back yard so as to not be scared of the bang and kick

GC, when those four lads get a little bigger, they are going to be a hunting/fishing squad for sure.
Starting them young and keeping them keen is the way to go.
