Treestand Boredome Lead To This Question...

Post by Scoop Sea »

As I was sitting in my treestand yesterday morning 45 minutes before legal shooting time, I wondered, has anybody been sitting in their treestand before or after shooting hours (waiting for the deer to leave), when the flash on their game camera went off? I am sure it's happened, but I was just curious if anybody had any good stories about this happening, i.e. "didn't know what it was at first and it scared me", "flash went off, a little while later the same buck showed up in the field and I harvested him", etc.

Yeah I know, this topic it's not only "off topic", it's a little "off the wall". Now you have a deeper understanding of my little ol brain and how it works when I am totally bored waiting for the sun to rise...... :-D

Ya'll have a great Sunday.

I have not. I did let a little 8 walk during bow season. I was discussing with my decision with my dad and told him we should go check his camera, b/c it should have walked right passed after it left my stand. Sure enough it did and the pic confirmed I made a good decision

Had the game camera flash go off tonight just after losing all light. Sat in the stand another 30 minutes. Will pull the SD card next Saturday...

Thanks Showboat for the story, that's the kind of stuff I was wondering about.

Wally: How ironic that this thread started today and you just had that happen. I look forward to hearing what was on the SD card.

Half the pictures from this camera are from a rabbit. By the end of the season it will be the fattest rabbit ever. Been looking up rabbit recipes.

If you really think about it, this should happen more times than not. We spend all afternoon waiting for the magic 15 minutes right at dark. So we expect deer to show up at dusk, the fact that they would show right after dark and set off the camera should be a regular occurrence. Perhaps people pack up and get down from the stand right at the end of legal shooting light, scaring them away. So a good topic would be: "How early before sun rise and how late after sun set do you try to enter and leave your stand?".

Now the rabbit is bringing a friend!

Good Points Wally: I tend to get to my stand at least 30 minutes before the legal shooting hour (30 minutes before sunup), but I haven't seen my flash go off yet. As for the evening hunt, I'm usually out of there shortly after legal shooting time, unless I have deer out in front of me, then I stay until it's pitch black or until they leave.

I would have thought there would have been more stories, however, I myself have been hunting over 30 years and just bought a game camera, hence I don't have any stores. Lack of folks using cameras could be one of the reasons there aren't more stories. Of of course, it could also be because this is a fishing site and we are discussing hunting.......

Mine is Infrared. Now, I always seem to get startled when the automatic feeder goes off. Now matter how much I prepare myself for it.

Like Scoop Sea this is the first year I've used game cameras. The first night walking out from the stand when the flash went off I must have jumped two feet. With my cat like reflexes I expected a comical picture, but apparently I am an older cat now and my jump occurred after the picture.
