Hall 'em In Wooden Plugs

This is the display I just had framed of the beautiful wooden plugs made by my friend and his dad, Dave and Fred Hall in Orlando. Dave tragically passed away nearly a year ago and this display is now in a place of honor in my office.

Fred and another retired buddy are continuing the tradition by turning out some great-looking and fish-catchin' plugs. Not only are these works of art, they fool everything from trout, reds, snook, tarpon and bass. Best of all, they're hand-made and built to last by American craftsmen.

I love the couple I have. But I'm are in a shadow box since Dave passed. Great guy.

The 4th from the top has a very similar look to the old Hedon river runt, except it was a diver. Use to have a couple in red and white back in the mid west.

That one is a diver also, SR. It's called a Wiggler and it digs down and produces a very tight wiggle.

The middle one is the Ripper and it is a subsurface lure. Have caught trout up to 4 pounds, big reds and snook on those.

And yes, RC, Dave was a great guy. Miss him a lot.

THAT TOP PLUG IS SIMILAR TO ONE I USE TO MAKE, I CALLED IT THE BOMBER, MADE THEM OUT OF 5/8TH DOWL, HAVE CAUGHT MANY A TROUT AND BLACK BASS ON THEM. I CAN NOT MAKE THEM ANYMORE SINCE I CAN NOT HOLD MY HANDS STEADY.

Great minds think alike, Pa. Dave named that plug the B-52. Easy walk-the-dog action that's hard for trout, snook and tarpon to resist.

I have several dozen wooden bombers. Most of them I acquired in the late 50's and 60's. That was the plug of choice on the Ocklocknee in the mid to late 60's. On a good weekend back then you could catch a hundred bass up to 5 pounds or so. My first experience in catch and release.
I have quite a few in almost new condition. I'd like to get some framed for my son in law who likes the old plugs.
I also have quite a few river runts in several colors. The black with white ribs was the best in creeks and rivers. nearly anything would hit it.
