Re: Kaptain Keyser Katchin'
Thanks Tidedancer and Steve for posting. Just want to clarify on the trout before I get bashed for keeping her. I had every intention of releasing her, but she swallowed my plug to the point where she wouldn't have made it.
I had no other option but to keep her, unforntunately.
It was a great day on the water!

Nice job, Capt. Impressive day.
It would be ideal if all big breeding sows like that one could be successfully released, but sometimes that just isn't the case. Even in cold water they are often over-stressed or injured to the point where they won't survive and there's no sense in wasting one if that happens. Quick fights, using circle hooks with bait and careful handling and revival afterwards will help minimize mortality as much as possible. But it is still a blood sport despite the best of intentions.
Did the striper eat a lure also? I've hooked a couple this time of year but never managed to get one to the boat. I had to go to Montauk to land some.

He sure did! I have caught a few this year, but not the monsters that I have seen cruising the shorelines. They sure do put up a fantastic fight. My wife has now found her new favorite fish to eat.silverking wrote:Nice job, Capt. Impressive day.

Re: Kaptain Keyser Katchin'
Beautiful fish. Didn't know that Striper's were in those waters. That one is very healthy looking too. I had to do some looking, but I found out that they are native fish, just uncommon. Evidently they are pretty much river bound and need to be near springs in the hot weather since they don't do well if the water temperature is above 75 degrees.
Re: Kaptain Keyser Katchin'
Sweet. I'd call that a slam.
To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.
