St. Marks 2/4/12.... Success!

Post by MuleTrainGA »

Saturday I decided to make my first trip down to the coast for the year. Accompanied by my father, we departed and arrived about 10 minutes before sunrise and saw the whole lot of tournament boats that had already departed. I figured the river would be packed, however there were only a handful of boats in the mouth. We first stopped by a group of oyster bars and started throwin. I was fishing with a Bite-A-Bait diving minnow and my dad was fishing with a mirrolure. First cast for me was a nice 17 inch trout which made me think, Oh no... :o I'm cursed, I'll never catch a fish for the rest of the day... :smt009 . However this so called curse was quickly dismissed when I hooked up with a nice 25" redfish. My dad, befuddled quickly exchanged baits to what I was throwing and was still having no luck at all (Not holding his mouth right I presume... :-D ). After another nice slot red and a couple trout we moved to another bar where he "broke the skunk" with a nice trout. Having to leave to go to a party for a close family friend, we struck out about 12:00 and headed back.

At the end of the day I wish I would have signed up for the tourney but most likely the day would have had a completely different outcome :hammer: . On a brighter note however, we were stopped by the FWC and had to undergo a safety check. The officer was quite polite and comical and did not make a big fuss about anything. He even thought my dad and I were brothers!!! (which seems impossibe with me being 19 and my dad 49) And with that comment my dad smiled and said "I like this guy" and I said, "Gee I wonder why....". :) All in all great first trip of the season and looking forward to many more and maybe a few tournaments while I'm at it!

This boy is the real deal. He will turn some heads on the NFGFC trail this year. I trained him well. Congrats!
