A unique website dedicated to fishing information from Florida's Northern Big Bend. This includes the area from the Econfina River west to the Apalachicola River
I fish exclusively out of Econfina. Can't seem to catch Redfish. Trout are no problem.I have been fishing out of Econfina for 3 years, and never caught a Redfish.I work the creek mouths, the bars, and still nothing. Should I fish East or West? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bbob
OK... I fished out of Econfina for the first time last weekend... the best spot we found was a few miles east ... an Island called Rock Island I believe... caught 5 reds (2 keeper sized), a nice flounder, a ladyfish, a few catfish and pinfish etc... all on live shrimp... also caught a 3' shark on a jig, casting towards the shoreline.
Another method for redfish you might want to try is working the spartina along the shoreline on a fairly strong incoming tide. The tide pushes the baitfish up against the hill & the reds seem to know it. On my best day there, my son & I caught 22 reds in a two hour perion using a gold spoon & slow retrieve. Stealth is also a factor as these feeders are a bit spooky. Go get 'em.
