What is the smallest caliber you trust to protect yourself?


My personal favorite defense gun has always been a Beretta Jetfire in 22 short. I’ve carried it for many years including while hiking. I never leave without it in my pocket. Of course the first rule when hiking in the wilderness is to use the “Buddy System”. This it means you NEVER hike alone, you bring a friend, companion, or even a family member because if something happens, there’s someone to go get help.

I remember one time while hiking with my wife in northern Alberta out of nowhere came this huge brown bear charging us and was she mad. We must have been near one of her cubs. Anyway, if I had not had my little Jetfire, I wouldn’t be here today. Just one quick shot to my wife’s knee cap and I was able to escape by just walking at a brisk pace. It’s one of the best pistols in my collection.

The smallest caliber I trust is the one I can accurately shoot. I have a north American arms 22 mag and don't trust the accuracy at all. Winter carry, para ordinance p12 .45 cal. Summer carry, smith airweight dao .38 cal.

THE OLD MAN ALWAYS CARRIES CLOCK 9 MM, 12 ROUND. WHEN TRAVELING ALWAYS CARRY 44 MAG. 6 INCH BARREL PLUS 280 IN THE TRUNK BESIDES THE GLOCK. HAVE 9 MM IN BOAT ALSO, THE OLD MAN IS TOO OLD TO DO ANY FIST FIGHTING ANYMORE SO BE CAREFUL, IF I AM ATTACKED ONE OF MY MULES WILL RESPOND.

I carry a Ruger LCP 380 a lot. It is about as small as I go. I feel most comfortable with my Glock 9mm over everything I own.
