2 week Keaton weather window....go this week or wait 1 more?

Post by slayer »

I got the " I need to be at Keaton" itch really really bad!!!!!!

all my tackle has been prepared....new hooks on my lures and line on my reels....spent the entire weekend washing and waxing my 2200 NauticStar.......reading every report I can find and pretty much just watching and waiting for all of the pieces to fall into place wind/weather/water temps since my ability to get down to the coast is limited......

My main issue with this first trip of the year is that it will revolve around my 8 year old son and a friend of his, so as much as I would love to get up shallow and use the top water and subsurface stuff, I will be staying in somewhat deeper water letting the boys watch the Cajun thunder/gulp combination

My dilemma after staring at the weather forecasts, looking at the next 2 weeks, this upcoming week looks great, low to mid 80's during the days including Fri/Sat/Sun.....or do ya wait another week allowing the water temps to creep up some more and hope for good water/wind/weather conditions????

My main goal is for these 2 boys to have a trip that they can talk about and share with their friends...the same way I did when my father took me to the Gulf as a young kid...

Just wanting some opinions from some of yall that are closer to Perry/Keaton

What was the water temp when your dad took you fishing? Take the boys fishing when you can. They'll have fun. My 2 cents. Btw- nice boat.

That is an easy one, go this weekend. The tides are better next weekend, but the weather may change. Something else could also come up. The fish are out and hungry now. If you pass on a decent weekend, and can't go next weekend, you will likely be kicking yourself. Go get em

Still gotta play it smart...with my ability to get to the gulf limited by work/weather/money....I have to be smart when choosing my days....

5 hour drive down, five hours back, diesel for the truck, fuel for the boat, extra tackle, lodging, food...it all adds up...and i want these boys to have a great trip....

but I do agree with what has already been posted....if it were me a my normal fishing buddy it would be a no brainer.....we would be there all weekend and never come out of 3 foot or less of water except to run the big motor to a new location....catching trout my way is a blast, but with the young boys along, I will need to fish deeper with the popping corks, and I just hadn't heard if that has really really turned on yet

very well!!!!!! when yall see the NauticStar in the canal or on the flats Friday thru Sunday ......throw your hands in the air and holler out "SLAYER" !!!!!!!

I will most like start out between the oyster bars near yates creek and work up towards Spring Warrior, shooting for about 3.5 foot of water
