sounds like a headache, i would've just pushed it back into the water and let it float down to someone else's beach by now!
Re: The Found Gheenoe Chronical
The feds got into this act with the patriot act and they have pushed the States to increase their registration requirements. Add that to the fact that some state employees in these departments are not too motivate or bright and you end up with an excellent case of extreme frustration. It is now a true blue pain in the butt.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

If I don't get this boat registered, I'll just be letting the terrorists win. Cannot allow that.MudDucker wrote:The feds got into this act with the patriot act and they have pushed the States to increase their registration requirements. Well, the LCSO solved my problem and when my stepdad called to report it and file the paperwork, they came out and confiscated it, no questions asked and with no hope of return! Wow, that didn't go at all as planned!
Good news is that I won't need that trailer any more!

Wow, leave it up to law enforcement to solve a problem. It would not surprise me if it were involved in a crime OR if a deputy comes up with a new boat in 3 or 4 months.

Problem solved, Wolfeman and it would probably be easier on your wallet in the long run.

Little late to share this, Wolfe, but you do know that if you had been willing to use it as a paddle vehicle no registration would have been required (as long as under 16')? Sounds like it would have made a nice little pond/river oar driven boat... all joking aside, sorry the terrorists won. This could / should have been you, man...

Re: The Found Gheenoe Chronical
what was the rationale for taking? Did you request a storage fee for the month of storage? Not sure I would have let them walk away "my" Gheenoe so easily...

Re: The Found Gheenoe Chronical
I wasnt there, just my mom and stepdad - apparently when they called to report it - and this is a funny story - the guy on the phone asked how long it had been washed up - my stepdad said "about a month" and the guy said "OK, we'll send somebody out" - 10 minutes later there was a Sheriff's Office helicopter circling just over the treeline up and down the river - 5 minutes after that, Johnny Law shows up, says hello, gets confirmation that *this* is the boat in question, drives through their yard, down to the shore and loads it up and drives away - "standard procedure for abandoned vehicles" I guess, or words to that effect.
We are guessing that the guy on the phone didn't hear or misunderstood when stepdad said "a bout a month" and they thought it might be a missing boater emergency. That, or they just REALLY look for excuses to get the chopper out of the hanger.

I'd call and explain that you salvaged the boat and wanted to see if it had been reported stolen or missing. If there are no reports on the boat you would like it back. Worth a try anyway but I suspect a deputy is using it for pond fishing already.

Big Bend Gyrene, do you have other pictures showing your setup? Is that a custom build? That is very interesting.

Not my setup... something I just snagged off the internet to show Wofeman what could have been done. Do have a canoe I take out from time to time but just use a single paddle and not the double oar setup. Sure like the looks of it though!
