My wife surprised me telling me that she had arranged for myself and a friend to stay and fish at Keaton for 3 days in late August for my birthday. Love that woman. Yeah man I cant wait. Gonna be fishing for trout and scalloping, but would also like to try for some new stuff. Can anyone tell me how and where to target Spanish and BSB's that time of year. Not sure about the seabass but I have heard on the radio of people slaying the Spanish by chumming them up. But how and with what? Any tips would be great. Also what places from Perry to Steinhatchee would be good to eat seafood at? Thanks.

Deal's Oyster House just west of Perry struck a chord with several during a recent post. Couple decent places on the water in Steinhatchee.
As far as the macks, focus on depths of 15-20 feet, especially where you see them attacking schools of pilchards or sardines. Anchor and chum with frozen block chum or White Marsh dry bags or a combo. Use casting spoons like Kastmaster, Gothchas or 1/4-ounce diamond jigs with a trace of wire. Be prepared to deal with a lot of unintended species, like ladyfish, bluefish and sharks.
The other option is run-and-gun, following the schools of bait dimpling on the surface and casting to the edges after you've killed the motor and drifted into casting range. Get too close and you'll put the schools down.

What road is Deans on? How deep would the seabass be? The small ones seem to be all over the flats that time of year. Would you want to go for macks out off of nine mile? I've tried trolling before with no luck.
DEAL's is on Hwy 98 West, a few miles outside of town.
I don't normally fish for seabass, so I can't tell you the depths but I suspect the same as you'd find grouper in the summer months when the water is hot--deep.
And when the water is that hot, you're going to find the Spanish in deeper water, too. Run out until you find the bait schools and you'll find macks, along with blues, jacks and ladyfish.
