Baitcaster Question

Post by woopty »

I won a nice baitcasting rod at the club meeting a year ago.
Never fished a baitcaster, so I bought a cheap reel.
Just when i was getting the hang of it, the reel died.
Don't know squat about baitcasting reels.
Any suggestions on something that will last, can stand 20lb test, and won't hurt my wallet too bad?

Hard to go wrong with Shimano's baitcasting reels. Here are a couple reasonable options:

Corvalus CVL300 (traditional round style)
$80

Caenan CAE100 (low profile and right-hand retrieve)
$85

The more you spend, the smoother the action with more ball bearings, etc., but either of these will work fine for trout, reds, flounder, etc.

I have never gotten used to switching hands, so all my baitcasters are left-hand retrieve.

Shimano Calcutta 200.

As a matter of fact, I'm selling one in the For Sale section.

I'll sell just the reel for $75.

Just serviced by Jims Reel Repair, so its ready to be used.

you'll be amazed at the difference if you throw a high quality baitcaster. Even those who don't throw casting reals would have a hard time backlashing some of them.
