SD Card

Post by APheroes »

Bought an SD Card from the Mexico beach ARA that has all coordinates for reefs and wrecks around Mexico Beach & Port St. Joe. They said it is Garmin compatible but when I insert the card into my 441s it shows no files to be transferred, yet on my home PC the SD Card does have files? Anyone offer up some I.T advice on how to transfer to my Garmin? Thanks a bunch? :-?

why don't you take them off that SD card and put them into a folder on your PC, then from that folder transfer them into your current Garmin SD card and see if they get formatted correctly from there?

APheroes, I've got a different brand (Lowrance) but have had to deal with file conversions before to get tracks/waypoints from a previously owned Magellan unit uploaded properly to my Lowrance unit. If the files aren't recognized by the unit, but are visible on the computer sure sounds like an extension issue could be the cause.

At work now and with limited time to hunt down, but can tell you there are a few free conversion websites / as well as shareware utility programs to handle conversion issues. If you're search savvy, and the extension issue proves to be the problem, you CAN find ways to convert for free. First thing I would check via google is what extensions your Garmin model normally uses/reads and compare those against what you see via the card check on the computer.

If you see the file extensions don't match, then you know you'll have to go the conversion route. Holler back if it's a conversion issue as later I might be able to offer specific links for help, that is if other board members don't' beat me to the punch as lots of guys on here who've dealt with similar GPS related issues.
