Shimano Spheros 1200FA
Reel handle became hard to turn! Pulled spool and there seems to be a counter weight in the spool. This does not show on the schematic. Actually there seems to be 2 counterweights. Put weight back in and weight will not stay in place. Has anyone had this problem and of so how did you fix? Glue/epoxy in place or do not replace?

flogator,
Yes there are counterweights on the rotor (not spool) of your reel. They are there to reduce rotor wobble when the the reel is turned. They are a different metal than the rotor. Whenever you introduce saltwater to two different metals there is a corrosive action that takes place. In the case of your Spheros, the weights are electrically bonded (spot welded) together. Whereas this creates a more reliable bond than glue, it is highly susceptible to corrosion failure.
The only way I am aware of repair is replacement of the rotor.I ran into the same problem with a customer's Stella 8000. As this is classified as a discontinued model by Shimano, parts might be harder to find. According to the 2012 Shimano parts price list, if available from Shimano, the rotor will cost $32.08 + shipping. My fee for clean and lube and to install the part is $20.00. Approximate total with sales tax would be $53.84 plus shipping.

Re: Shimano Spheros 1200FA
Appreciate the response. The reel has only been used twice in the 2+ years I have owned it. The insides look brand new, no corrosion. i do not see any indication of spot welding and that could be the problem. there are 2 of the 'half moon' weights and 1 has not came loose. I am weighing my options. Your pricing is entirely reasonable.
Re: Shimano Spheros 1200FA
I would try a little epoxy, maybe the jbweld type. Probably would work.
