I appreciate you guys too. I know it is a long ways to drive to our store. I just wanted to state how Shimano does things. They do not charge for broken rods nor do they charge shipping back to the factory, they send a call tag. Not trying to bash Kevin's, I hear good things about Lynn down there. And about the sponsor thing, we were sponsors way before they stepped on board.

Re: Thanks to Kevin's
Being curious about the warranty I looked it up on Shimano's website and it looks like retailers and dealers do not have to handle warranty exchanges at all, so it looks like Kevins is being good dudes about dealing with the exchange when they dont have to. Im guessing the fee is for return shipping or some kind of restocking fee since they are decreasing their inventory.
Kevin's also replaces for carelessness, which Shimano does not:Retailer and wholesaler outlets are not required to perform warranty repairs or exchanges on behalf of Shimano
It's their prerogative and I definitely appreciate having the new rod in 10 minutes rather than 3 weeks it would take to ship it back and forth! Local wins again.THIS LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY DOES NOT EXTEND TO OR COVER ANY DAMAGE TO THE ROD NOT RESULTING FROM A NON-CONFORMITY IN MATERIAL OR WORKMANSHIP; ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY MISUSE, ABUSE OR TAMPERING WITH THE ROD BY OTHER THAN NORMAL USE OF THE ROD...

I will always buy from SGO or Kevins, NO Walmart, the only time I buy from Bass Pro is if someone gives me a gift card for Christmas. Thanks to both of these stores for being Sponsors and helping the sportsman with quality equipment and service.

Re: Thanks to Kevin's
I've always been happy with the service I've gotten there. I took a Curado back that had a grinding noise. I got it for Christmas, in Green Cove Springs, FL (Jacksonville) & having never had one before I wasn't sure if it was right. I called Lin & he offered to ship me another so I could fish. That's customer service.

You guys sure break a lot of rods. Serves you right for fishing so much.
Re: Thanks to Kevin's
I was told that the $15 for the rod replacement is for shipping back to the manufacturer. the guys at Kevins have been real good to when i break my rods. Thanks Kevins staff

CairoTrout just clearly explained that Shimano does not charge for shipping back to the factory. They send a call tag.CairoTrout wrote:I appreciate you guys too. Lets call it what it is. Kevins charges a $15 handling fee to stop what they are doing and handle a "free" rod exchange. If you don't want to pay their fee, drive up to SGO and do business with them.
Re: Thanks to Kevin's
Still beats coming up with your own rod tube and the $15+ish to ship it to Shimano. Then you have to wait for it to get there, for them to fix/replace it and for them to ship it back.CairoTrout wrote:Shimano's warranty is lifetime and they do not charge $15.00. We exchange them without any fee. Must be an in house fee.

I think you missed the part about abuse and NOT a manufacturers defect. Therefore not a warranty claim. I think the world of Heath and SGO,I shop there when I can. I also shop at Kevins. Both establishment treat me with respect and appreciation. Manufacturers know abuse versus defect. In most cases a item sent back for defect that is not a defect is charged back to the store.bbb wrote:legend77 wrote:I was told that the $15 for the rod replacement is for shipping back to the manufacturer. the guys at Kevins have been real good to when i break my rods. Broke the rod because of abuse... not a factory defect. Normally I would take that on the chin and buy a new rod.
Walked into Kevin's and out with a new one as promised. I call that good service.
I appreciate you Cairo Trout- South Ga Outdoors is good people too! Just a lot further from my house.

Love me some Kevin's. Lin and crew have bailed me out several times from , let me say, my various fishing rod indescretions. I've "broken" a few while fishing and they have always been good to me no questions asked. In my opinion they are far and away the best in terms of product selection, price, customer service, and technical know how(even Miles) that Tallahassee has to offer-- "Big Spenders" or not

Re: Thanks to Kevin's
I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU PEOPLE ARE DOING TO BREAK FISHING RODS LIKE YOU HAVE STATED. I HAVE BOUGHT 16 UGLY STIKS FROM WALLY MART OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS AND THEY HAVE HAD SOME PRETTY ROUGH TREATMENT AND SO FAR, NOT THE FIRST ROD HAS BROKEN. I SET MY DRAG AT THE PROPER TENSION FOR THE LINE I USE AND I THINK THIS IS THE REASON I HAVE NOT BROKEN ANY OF MY RODS. I HAVE CAUGHT SOME REDS THAT WOULD WEIGH IN EXCESS OF 40 # AND BOATED THEM, I ALSO HAVE LOST A LOT OF BIG FISH MAINLY BECAUSE THE HEAVEST LINE I USE IS 15# TEST.
