Keaton Beach 4/6 & 4/7

Post by ddb »

Fished with a friend out of Keaton Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Had a good day Friday, picking up 9 trout and a nice spanish, most caught at the end of the rising tide. Looked for reds but only found a few hog sail cats and a couple of nice trout. Had a rougher day Saturday, ending up with several short trout, sea bass, and a couple of keaper trout, through the morning falling tide and part of the rise. Water temp had dropped from the mid 70's on Friday to low 70's on Saturday. Also experienced a mid-day haze on Saturday, which by what I've seen tends to shut down the bite. Also noticed the barometer was rising fairly sharply. Wondering what sort of success others may have had on Saturday and if it were the conditions or just the area we targetted?

That haze might have been smoke. Smoke came in here at home from an uncontrol burn in Baker County.

DDB the warmest water we found was 67 degrees saturday. We had little success but it was good to get out and run the boat. Where was the warmer water? South? We were at Spring Warrior. You have Breambuster with you?

No, BB was off to TX. Down with a different friend. We were fishing some pretty stained water around SW as well. We were in his boat, so not sure about the temp sensor, but relatviely the temps dropped 5-10 degrees. Kept thinking the bite would turn on as the tide got some strength coming in, but it never did. Even the fish that 'hit' did so tentatively. On the plus side, starting to see bait in the water, so things should continue to pick up.

Hi Dave,
Fished last Monday with Youngest Daughter and a couple of her friends (Spring Break).. Caught many shorts and small BSB 4-6 ft just out from Eagles nest. The girls had a good time. Got blown off the water around 3;30

Good to hear from you DT. Glad you have been able to get out. Headed back to KB this weekend, so I'll try to give a post on how we turn out. Weather looks great, tides not so.
