hey guys, im new to the forum. i've been fishing since i was a little kid (23 now) and just recently started fishing the wakulla river, mainly below the lower bridge and out towards the east river. i see plenty of sheephead, reds, trout, bass, catfish and HUGE gar riding around out there at night, but never catch more than a couple stray trout on a topwater plug. i've tried fishing outgoing tides, and in coming tides, mainly at dusk.
im not trying to steal anyone's "honey hole," but would like some advice on fishing this area. thanks in advance guys!

thanks guys, i've been wanting to go out there, but my 1436 alumacraft might be a little too small. plus i like putting in at 98 so my motor gets flushed out good before i take it out of the water. maybe ill put in at the lighthouse this weekend. i really dont like the idea of running in salt water though.

Yup. It is pretty convenient. The park right across the road from the entrance to the wildlife refuge. Just back down the ramp and run your motor for a minute or two. Flushes the motor and rinses the trailer, easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

It's been a few years but the last couple of times I tried that you couldn't get down the ramp for all the trailerless vehicles parked in the way. There seemed to be some kind of beer drinking convention going on...
As the spring winds lay a little towards the end of the month there will be plenty of days you can get out on the flats from the lighthouse. I've seen folks out in what looked like a bath tub with a trolling motor. You'll see dingys, yaks, small john boats, Gheenoes, even inflatable rafts. Not that all are safe mind you... Put a bildge pump in your boat, check the forecast, don't go if it looks worse at the ramp than you expected, and watch for storms. The first couple of small coves and creeks to the east are easy to get too and can hold good fish.
