Saltwater classic

Post by craSSh »

Went out of Mexico Beach about 55 miles out and started trolling. Within the first 3 minutes had a strike but the fish didn't get hooked. Then on the second pass had another strike, this time the stinger hook's leader broke. On the 5th or 6th pass got another strike this time caught a 33.90 lbs. wahoo. My first wahoo and hopefully not my last. What a powerful fish!!! The second day tried to find a grouper hole, to no avail. Drifted over some live bottom with dead bait and caught some red snapper and short grouper. Then we started trolling again: 1 cuda, 2 bonita, and 1 chicken dolphin. I fished with the Don's Boats team and had a blast.

no pics!!! :( We were going to take pics but the fish was still green on the gaff and started flopping around, so in the fish box it went. Had every intention of taking pics but didn't. The fish should have landed us 5th place (33.90) because the 5th place fish was 31.50. Don't know the explanation behind this, but am gonna try and find out.

Wahoo

Post by Carlabear »

Didn't think I could ever find any fish that I liked better than grouper but I did and it is wahoo!

Wish you could catch them in closer. We caught them out in the Atlantic but you still have to go out 50 miles.

Hope you catch some more! :lick:
